The Laos equivalent of the Arc de Triomphe was a funny sight and even funnier that it's built from concrete supplied by the U.S. for the construction of a new airport in 1969 (supposedly expats here call it the 'vertical runway'); this seems fair enough as the Americans were still in the process of bombing the hell out of Laos untill 1973 in the "Secret War".
